Ready to get in BED with us?

  • A BEDucator is YOU! You sign up to be your camp's volunteer Camp Consent Educator, a.k.a the BEDucator, and go through BED’s video curriculum. You have volunteered yourself to define and foreshadow your camp's boundaries, determine what camp resources are available to help fellow burners, and learn how to execute Teachable Moments.

This is not to say you are an expert in dealing with complicated situations, but that you have taken the time to define your resources inside and outside of camp to help. The more people in your camp who become Consent Ambassadors, the more support your camp has for each other.

  • The BEDucator sets up a meeting with their Camp Leads to determine their camp's definition of consent and write their unique Consent Policy. During this exercise, we will provide you with a guide on how to create this with your camp and give an example of what BED's Consent Policy looks like.

The purpose of the Consent Policy is to foreshadow your camp's boundaries surrounding the 11th Principle of Consent and guide your camp in designing a Consent Enforcement Process. We give leaders a three-step process for giving Teachable Moments, and a process when Teachable Moments don't land.

  • As the BEDucator, you (or someone you designate from your camp), will lead a BED Talk during your camp’s gathering. This short talk should cover the Consent Policy developed during your meeting with your camp leads, along with a clear explanation of your camp’s Consent Enforcement Process.

If time allows in your camp’s meeting schedule, consider opening up a brief, open discussion about consent. It's a great way to build trust, understanding, and community.

Hi, I’m Momo
Since joining BED in 2017 and assuming the role of a Board Director in 2018, my journey has been marked by a deepening understanding of the complexities surrounding consent. Through observing global frustrations and challenges, I've come to value the power of listening and community support over prescriptive approaches. If you're here, it's because you share a genuine concern for sexual assault prevention and believe in the strength of collective action.

The lessons taught in this course echo my experiences in the professional realm. Implementing these principles has yielded tangible results, including significant reductions in unwanted encounters and the cultivation of a more supportive and empowering environment within communities.
